Thailand is encouraging travelers to explore the country in a more environmentally conscious way with 11 low-carbon tourism routes designed to reduce emissions while supporting local communities.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports through the Department of Tourism, aims to promote travel experiences that minimize environmental impact while preserving natural resources and strengthening regional economies. 

The routes form part of a broader effort to encourage tourism that is both sustainable and community-focused. They also come amid a renewed focus on energy security.

Low-carbon tourism emphasizes travel practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while highlighting local culture, natural landscapes, and community livelihoods.

  • Chiang Mai–Lampang
• Northeast Thailand:
  • Khon Kaen–Chaiyaphum
  • Udon Thani–Nong Khai
  • Loei–Phetchabun
• Central Thailand:
  • Uthai Thani–Nakhon Sawan
  • Kanchanaburi–Ratchaburi
  • Samut Songkhram–Samut Sakhon
• Eastern Thailand:
  • Chanthaburi–Trat
• Southern Thailand:
  • Krabi–Surat Thani
  • Phuket–Phang Nga
