ประวัติ

สำนักงานการค้าและเศรษฐกิจไทย มีภารกิจโดยพฤตินัยเทียบเท่ากับสถานเอกอัครราชทูตของประเทศไทยในไต้หวัน แต่เดิมเป็นสำนักงานประสานงานที่อยู่ภายใต้บริษัทการบินไทย และได้แยกตัวออกมาจัดตั้งเป็นหน่วยงานสังกัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 10 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2535 (ค.ศ. 1992) โดยมีสถานะเป็นสถานกงสุลใหญ่ชั้นหนึ่ง

ประเทศไทยได้ยุติความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตในระดับทางการกับสาธารณรัฐจีนเมื่อวันที่ 1 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2518 (ค.ศ. 1975) นายกรัฐมนตรี ม.ร.ว. คึกฤทธิ์ ปราโมช เดินทางไปเยือนสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนและได้สถาปนาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกัน เป็นการสิ้นสุดการรับรองสถานะของสาธารณรัฐจีน ตามนโยบาย "จีนเดียว" ของรัฐบาลสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน

เป้าหมายการดำเนินงานของสำนักงานจำกัดอยู่ที่ความสัมพันธ์ในเชิงเศรษฐกิจ, การค้า, การลงทุน, วิชาการ และวัฒนธรรม เช่นเดียวกับสำนักงานเศรษฐกิจและวัฒนธรรมไทเป ที่ทางไต้หวันได้มาจัดตั้งขึ้นในประเทศไทยและประเทศอื่น ๆ

History

Thailand Trade and Economic Office (TTEO), established on 10 June 1992, serves as the Representative Office of Thailand in Taiwan with respect to the absence of a diplomatic relationship between the two sides. The main functions of the Office are to promote close relation and cooperation in the areas of Economic, Investment, Education, and Culture. Prior to its formal establishment in 1992, the Office was a liaison section under the Thai Airways Office in Taipei.

In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the Office also provides Consular Services, as similar to other Royal Thai Embassies, e.g. Issuing Thai Visa for Non-Thai Nationals in Taiwan who want to travel to Thailand, Renewing Thai National ID and Passport, and Aiding Thai Nationals under the difficulties or emergency situation.
