The Laanta Lanta Festival is back, celebrating the island’s unique cultural harmony under the theme “Great Nature, Glorious Culture.” This three-day festival takes place in Lanta Old Town, a charming Andaman coastal community known for its multicultural blend of Thai Buddhist, Muslim, Chinese, and Urak Lawoi traditions.

Join locals in an immersive cultural experience featuring traditional performances, folk games, live music, artisanal crafts, and a vibrant street market. The festival also offers a mini-Songkran celebration, giving you a taste of Thailand’s famous water festival in a more intimate, heritage-rich setting.

  • Chao Ley (“Sea People”) Boat Ceremony: Experience a sacred sea people boat-floating ritual, which serves as a blessing for peace and prosperity.
  • Music Entertainment & Cultural Performances: Enjoy both contemporary jazz and reggae performances by the beach alongside more traditional Thai performances, like the enchanting Rong NgenRong Ngen is a traditional Thai folk performance with both dancing and singing, where performers often engage in improvised lyrical exchanges with their dance partners.
  • Art & Craft Exhibitions – Explore local craftsmanship, from Batik paintings to Toi Pa Nun leaf crafting, alongside DIY art zones and recycled art installations.
  • Sri Raya Walking Street – Take a stroll down the vibrant walking street adorned with colorful lanterns and lined with seaside restaurants perched on stilts. Within the magical festival atmosphere, visitors can indulge in a variety of local flavors, from island specialties to fusion street food.

Good to Know Before You Go

Festival activities take place from April 11th-13th, 2025, from afternoon until late evening, at Baan Sri Raya, Lanta Old Town, in Krabi province. The island can be accessed via passenger ferries from Krabi, Phuket, and other nearby islands.

As with any Songkran-related activity, be sure to wear your floral shirts and be prepared for some friendly din sor pong smearing.

Koh Lanta is one of eight districts in Krabi, which boasts 53 other islands, pristine beaches, and a multicultural society of Thai Muslims, Thai Buddhists, Thai-Chinese, and the indigenous Urak Lawoi sea gypsies. The Laanta Lanta Festival is a key annual event that showcases the local way of life, traditions, and cultural heritage of Lanta island’s diverse communities. This year’s festival, now in its 20th edition, continues a tradition that began in 2001.
